Round-up review: our score and verdict are based on published specs and reviews from across the web, not our own play-testing yet.

Head’s Speed MP is the balanced, control-with-pop frame at the centre of the range, endorsed by Jannik Sinner and aimed at intermediate and advanced all-court players. It is built to do most things well rather than one thing brilliantly, which makes it the sensible single racket for club players who split their week between singles and doubles.

Balanced by design

Tennisnerd’s summary of the frame is a healthy launch angle for easy depth and a beefy 330 swingweight for stability, wrapped in an RA 60 layup that feels comfortable and well dampened. Auxetic 2.0 sits in the yoke and handle to soften impact, and the frame forgives mistimed shots rather than punishing them.

The 2026 update adds Hy-Bor, an aerospace material mix, to the shaft. Head says it firms up perceived stability and the solid impact feel, and the same material drew praise in Tennisnerd’s Extreme 2026 review for making Head frames feel less muted. The figures below are the published 2024 numbers.

Where reviewers split

Nobody calls it exciting. Tennisnerd describes the Speed MP as safe and versatile rather than a specialist, and long-time users find each update incremental. The open 16×19 pattern can balloon the ball if strung loosely, so Tennisnerd recommends a firm tension around 53 lb to keep shots on target.

Spin is respectable rather than heavy. Against a Pure Aero or Head’s own Extreme it gives up rotation, and the 330 swingweight, while stable, asks a little more of slower swingers than the lighter Speed MP L.

Verdict

A comfortable, versatile frame for players who want balance over extremes. Spin or power specialists should look at the Extreme or the Boom instead.
