Round-up review: our score and verdict are based on published specs and reviews from across the web, not our own play-testing yet.
The speed end of adidas’s range, and the first Ubersonic that stability-minded players can take seriously. Tennis Warehouse’s playtesters scored it 8.3 out of 10 and RunRepeat’s lab landed on 83 out of 100. It suits quick, aggressive movers with a standard to narrow foot who want a low, fast ride and aren’t precious about plushness.
The Speedframe changes everything
Foot support scored 8.5, and every tester noticed. The new Speedframe wraps the heel, a half-bootie sleeve holds the midfoot and Adituff guards the toe. Tennis Warehouse tester Chris found it far more torsionally stable than any previous Ubersonic, and Oak called it his favourite current adidas shoe, ahead of the Barricade 13, because he could slide into shots at full speed and trust it. Weight scored 8.6: light, but with enough mass to feel supportive.
Light, airy, and a grind at first
Ventilation was the top score at 8.8, helped by a cutout under the arch that some testers took a while to trust. The surprise is the break-in. Chris needed around five hours for the shoe to mould and flex, something he had never had to do with an Ubersonic, and Jason’s slightly wider foot found the forefoot tight until it opened up. Tennisnerd calls the fit snug and suggests going up half a size if you are between sizes. RunRepeat scored the cushioning a low 48 out of 100: this is a firm, close-to-the-court ride.
Durability is the catch
Sole durability was the lowest mark at 7.3, and the testers split on it. Jason put in 15-plus hours with only minor tread loss. Chris wore through under his right big toe quickly and gets far better life from the Defiant Speed 2. Oak saw upper scuffing wherever the shoe touched the ground. Mark’s verdict was the fairest: about the same as the Ubersonic 4.1, which is fine for a shoe with no outsole warranty. Tennisnerd reached the same conclusion from its own testing.
